GCNSL - Summer Greetings 2020

Greetings from the Secretariat

Dear members and friends of the UN Global Compact

With the summer season approaching, we are very happy to present you with our upcoming events as well as the latest news from the UN Global Compact.

On 24 June, we kindly invite you to the Webinar: "Découvrez la boîte à outils: Travail décent pour un approvisionnement durable". And on the 06 July, take part in our Sharing & Learning on climate-related reporting, where different frameworks for addressing and reporting corporate impacts on climate change will be presented and discussed.

Under the theme of “Recover Better, Recover Stronger, Recover Together”, the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit convened over 20'000 of purpose-driven sustainability champions who were challenged to reflect on the importance of collaboration and public-private partnerships, and increase their ambition to achieve the SDGs. We strongly recommend you to read the UN Global Compact 20th-Anniversary Progress Report, which gives important insights and critical feedback to all of us.

We look forward to meeting you soon and wish you a cheerful summer season!

Yours,

Antonio Hautle & team

Progress ReportUN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2020

With over 26 hours continuous virtual gathering and more than 100 sessions, the Leaders Summit was the UN’s largest, most inclusive and sustainable convening of sustainability champions. The event provided a platform, where leaders from business, civil society, Governments and the UN committed themselves to tackling societal challenges and advancing the SDGs. At the Summit, the UNGC released the 20th-Anniversary Progress Report which emphasizes that more ambitious action, at scale, is needed to meet the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and create the world we want.

20th Anniversary of the UN Global Compact

Launched in 2000 by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the UN Global Compact was initiated to bring business and the United Nations together to give a human face to the global market. Since then, important progress has been made but from runaway climate change to widening inequalities, our actions do not currently match the ambition and pace necessary to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. All stakeholders must unite to transform our collective aspiration into reality.

Now more than ever, business can and should play a central role in societal transformation”.

Listen to the motivating video messages of António Guterres, UN-Secretary General, and Sanda Ojiambo. We encourage you to become our ambassadors to largen our responsible business community and join us in Uniting Business for a better world.

At the Leaders Summit, several new resources have been released, including the Leadership for the Decade of Action. The report sets out to discover what can be learned from business leaders who are integrating sustainability across strategy, operations and stakeholder engagement.
