News of Global Compact Network Switzerland

The high level United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights was held in Geneva from 25th to 27th November 2019. More than 2'000 participants attended the annual forum and addressed how the business sector can help advance sustainability practices. Along with that, a new report was published — "Navigating the Future of Business and Human Rights: Good Practice Examples" - addressing how companies can embed human rights into their corporate strategies and advance people-centred solutions to growing global challenges.

LISBON — The United Nations Global Compact joined technology companies and startups at the Web Summit 2019 to explore how innovative business solutions and disruptive technologies can help deliver the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. 

Speakers at the SDG Media Zone included Lise Kingo, CEO and Executive Director of the UN Global Compact and Tony Blair, former British Prime Minister, along with a diverse group of CEOs, tech industry leaders and more. The Swiss Network, along with many other local networks, was present at 'The Social Responsibility Week' as well as the UNGC's Annual Local Network Forum to discuss present issues and strategies of the UNGC.

The OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises are one of the most comprehensive multilateral code of conduct for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Specific guidelines are developed for implementation at company level.

Now, a due diligence guide for responsible corporate lending and securities underwriting for financial institutions has been published by the OECD. It contains practical implementation tips on, among other things, prioritising risks, stakeholder engagement, dealing with confidentiality provisions and also on a possible dissolution of a customer relationship.

The Swiss National Contact Point for the OECD Guidelines will hold a public, practice-oriented workshop on this subject in the first quarter of 2020.

UN Climate Action Summit: 87 major companies are taking action to align their businesses with what scientists say is needed to limit the worst impacts of climate change. They have committed to set climate targets across their operations and value chains aligned with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and reaching net-zero emissions by no later than 2050.
