SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
In 2015, all 193 member states of the United Nations adopted a plan for achieving a better future for all — a total of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs characterize the sustainability debate at national and international levels. As a global goals system, the SDGs provide a common language and a compass for the challenges of the 21st century. The implementation target year for these is 2030.
In addition to the commitment of politicians and civil society, the business community is also required to master these challenges. The private sector plays an enormous role in tackling these global challenges. Companies must increasingly leverage their resources to advance the SDGs.
There are only a few years left to implement the 2030 Agenda. In view of the slow progress to date, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for a ‘Decade of Action’ at the beginning of 2020 and mandated the UN Global Compact to mobilize the business community. The UN Global Compact Network Switzerland & Liechtenstein is responding to this call by supporting companies in the interpretation and implementation of the SDGs through various formats such as e-learning, tools, and training programmes.
