Workshop: Human rights due diligence in practice

Companies have a responsibility to respect Human Rights. This is what the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, adopted in 2011, stipulate. They are expected to “know and show”: identifying the potential adverse impacts on people and implement the necessary mechanisms to address them. The human rights due diligence process as defined by OCED Guidelines for Responsible Business Conduct serves as the world wide accepted blueprint. In addition, the Switzerland National Action Plan adopted in December 2016 defines the expectations of the Federal Council with regards to the corporate sector.

Even smaller companies are exposed to human rights due diligence requirements. However, transposing the human rights due diligence requirements into the operational reality of (small) businesses is not always easy.

  • What do these national and international frameworks mean for my company’s day to day operations? What methodologies and tools can I use, to be able to identify potential risks and address them?
  • What does it mean for my suppliers and business partners relations?

By attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understanding the human rights due diligence requirements and how they apply to your business
  • Receive practical guidance on how to identify potential risks and impacts associated with your company’s operations and value chain
  • Define processes to address these risks and impacts
  • learn from practical examples and discussions with each other
